Canton Pee Wee teams capture state hockey championships
By Canton CitizenIt was a banner weekend for Canton Youth Hockey as two different Pee Wee teams — Canton Pee Wee A and Canton Pee Wee B White — took home state championship plaques after dominating the competition at the 2017 Massachusetts Hockey State Championships held March 3-5 in Marlborough.
The Pee Wee A team went 5-0 in the 12U Tier II Large division, culminating with a 3-2 victory over Belmont in the title game. They also scored wins over Wilmington, Parkway, Cape Cod Canal, and Framingham and outscored opponents by a combined margin of 28-6. The squad was coached by Will Theodore, Bobby Hayhurst, James Cavanaugh, and Kyle Leavitt — all former CYH players and members of the 2010 Canton High School state championship team.
Canton Pee Wee B White also went undefeated in the 12U Tier III Large division, outscoring the opposition 31-5. In their finals matchup against Andover, the team scored four unanswered goals to claim the title with a 4-1 victory. The B White team was coached by Alan Middleton, Vin Sica, John Leonetti, and Tim McCabe.
Also representing Canton at the state championships was the Squirt B White team, which went undefeated in pool play (3-0) before falling to Needham in the state semifinals. Canton Youth Hockey proudly congratulates all of the Canton teams that competed in this year’s state tournament.
