Marilyn Ann (Quinn) MacLeod passed away on June 15, 2018, after a long illness.

macleod copyBorn in Boston on December 21, 1934. Beloved wife of 60 years to Duncan A. MacLeod of Canton. Much loved mother of Jeanne V. Garifallou (George) of Marstons Mills, Bonnie Marie MacLeod of Canton, Duncan A. MacLeod, Jr. (Jen Cote) of Raynham, and Colin J. MacLeod of Raynham. Also mother to Baby Girl MacLeod, Duncan’s twin sister, who drew breath for eight hours on July 26, 1963. Daughter of Francis and Margaret (Fleming) Quinn. Loving sister to Margaret E. Kilroy, her beloved best friend who passed in 1993, and most assuredly was the first to greet her in Heaven along with Duncan’s twin sister. Also, loving sister to Francis Quinn, Jr. (wife Ellen) of Canton and Yarmouthport, Charles Quinn (Lee) of Pembroke, William Quinn of Boston, and Alice (Chris) Eastland of Gloucester. “Best Grammy ever” to Elena V. Garifallou of Charlotte, NC, and Colin and Abby MacLeod of Raynham. Aunt to many nieces and nephews on both sides of the family.

Marilyn was an active member of St. John the Evangelist parish since moving to Canton in 1961, both as a member of the parish and the church choir, as well as the St. John’s School Association. She eventually became the “Leader of Song” at St. John’s in Canton, and for nearly 20 years at St. John Chrysostom in West Roxbury. She sang at the weddings and funerals of many hundreds of couples and family members who may be reading this notice. Her beautiful voice brought joy to many in the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony, and much needed comfort to families as they said goodbye to their loved ones at the end of their earthly journey.

As noted, Marilyn and Duncan recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary before she became ill. They met in 1955 at New England Telephone Company, had their first date at the Mill Hill Club in Yarmouth on Cape Cod, and married on May 4, 1958. And the rest, as they say, was history.

The family would like to specifically thank Marilyn’s ICU team at Steward Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton, and most especially the loving extended family at McCarthy Care Center in Sandwich. The nurses, health aides, chaplains, social workers and medical director, along with the entire staff at MCC, provided tremendous love and compassion to Marilyn and her family in the last week of her life. We are eternally grateful to each and every one of you.

Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street, Thursday from 4-8 p.m. Funeral mass in St. John the Evangelist Church in Canton Friday at 10:30 a.m. Burial St. Mary’s Cemetery, Canton. In lieu of flowers, Marilyn’s family would like any donations in her memory to go to McCarthy Care Center, 73 Service Rd., East Sandwich, MA 02537.
