CHS boys’ track team improves record with Sharon victory
By Mike BergerThe CHS boys’ track team improved its season record to 2-3-1 with a dominant, 70-15 win over Sharon and a 52-34 loss to Mansfield in tri-meet action last week.
The leading point scorer for the team as of January 4 was Jon Vaughn (58), followed by Christan Bates (39), Matt Sidney (30) and Dan Alexander (23).
Vaughn was the high point scorer in the December 29 tri-meet at the Franklin Field House as he collected 23 points with two wins — 50-yard hurdles (6.7 seconds) and 50-yard dash (5.4 seconds) — and a third place in the high jump (five feet four inches).
Bates also had a productive day, scoring 14 points overall: six points in the 50-yard hurdles with two second place finishes (7.1 seconds), and eight points in the mile with a first and second place finish (4.56.4).
Ten-point scorers were Dan Alexander with two first-place finishes in the shot put (38 feet, six and three quarter inches), and Matt Sidney with a double win in the high jump (six feet, four inches).
Jordan Guyton scored nine points on the day with a second place in the 50-yard dash (6.1 seconds) and a first and third in the 300-meter sprint at 40.3 seconds.
Chris Ha and Bates each scored eight points with a first and second place finish respectively in the 600 meter run with a time of 1:36.8 in the 600-meter run.

CHS coach Chris Elgar was also pleased with Canton’s performance in last weekend’s state freshmen-sophomore meet, which resulted in two top-ten performances for the Bulldogs: Derek Seto in the high jump (five feet, four inches), and the 4 x 200 relay team of Seto, Evan Feldman, Yanni Folkes and Alex Lenkei who ran a combined time of 1:51.7
