Boys’ track dominates Sharon; edged by Franklin

The CHS boys’ track team dominated Sharon and came close to beating one of the league powers in Franklin before falling 71-60 in dual meet action last week.

Against Sharon, Canton scored points in all the events except the 4×400 relay. The Bulldogs swept four events, scoring a first, second, and third in the 800 meter, shot put, triple jump and high jump. Leading scorers on the day were Jordan Guyton, Jon Vaughn, Nikita Amelchenko, Jared Hobbs, and Matt Sidney.

Sharon results

First place: Amelchenko, 400 intermediate hurdles, 1:03; Guyton, 100 meters, 11.5 seconds, and 200, 22.9 seconds; Christian Bates, mile, 5:01.3; Vaughn, 110 hurdles, 16.1 seconds; Cam Huber, 800 meters, 2:10.9; Mike Bronstein, two mile, 11:19; Dan Alexander, shot put, 39 feet, three inches; Julian Malbranche, javelin, 122 feet, 11 inches; Hobbs, long jump, 19 feet, 11.5 inches, and triple jump, 49 feet, 9.5 inches; and Sidney, high jump, six feet.

Second place: Tomas Kerikas, 400 hurdles, 1:04.3; Josh Sheehan, mile, 5:08.4; Obi Nwankwo, 400m, 57.3 seconds; Matt Kelly, 800m, 2:11.4; Saeed Vossoughi, two mile, 11:30; Chris Walker, shot put, 36 feet, three inches; Guyton, discus, 96 feet, four inches; Marty Fauche, long jump, 19 feet; Sidney, triple jump, 39 feet, two and half inches; and Chris Boughter, high jump, five feet, four inches.

Third place: Sidney, 100m, 11.8 seconds; Gautam Madineedi, 400m, 58.5 seconds; Kerikas, 110 high hurdles, 19.4 seconds;  Amelchenko, 800m, 2:13.1; Sidney, 200m, 23.8 seconds; Frankie Carnes, shot put, 36 feet, one inch; Tommy George, discus, 89 feet, eight inches; Alexander, javelin, 103 feet, four inches; Vaughn, triple jump, 39 feet, five inches; and Derek Seto,  high jump, five feet, two inches.

Against Franklin, Canton was shut out in two events (two mile and 4×100-meter relay) and was limited to one point in the discus and javelin. One highlight was track newcomer Marquis Rodriguez, who won the long jump at 18 feet, seven inches, and placed third in the 100 with a time of 11.7 seconds.

First place: Guyton, 100m, 11.3 seconds, and 200m, 22.9 seconds; Vaughn, 110 high hurdles, 15.5 seconds; Alexander, shot put, 39 feet, 11 inches; Hobbs, triple jump, 40 feet, three inches; and Marc Abelard, high jump, six feet.

Second place: Huber, 110 high hurdles, 2:10.1; Vaughn, triple jump, 39 feet, 11 inches; and Sidney, high jump five feet, six inches.

Third place: Amelchenko, 400 intermediate hurdles, 62.3 seconds; Bates, mile, 4:55; Boughter, 400m, 55.3 seconds, and high jump, five feet, four inches; Fauche, 200m, 23.7 seconds; Guyton, discus, 98 feet; Alexander, javelin, 114 feet, nine inches; Fauche, long jump, 18 feet, six inches.

The boys look to even their record with an away meet Today, April 15 at Oliver Ames.
