Girls’ track team records second victory; boys lose tough one to Foxboro Warriors

The Canton High School girls’ track team had a good week, beating Foxboro 88-48 and losing to North Attleboro by only eight points, 72-64.

The boys’ team dropped its dual meet against Foxboro 80-56.

In the State Freshman-Sophomore Meet held last weekend, Vicky Tondre was awarded the Most Outstanding Field Athlete. Tondre placed first in the 200 meters with a time of 26.9 seconds. She also won the triple jump at 33 feet, four inches and was a member of the winning 4×100 relay team, which also included Mellyn Costello, Briana Duserick and Becca Pulcini.

“The girls did a great job battling both Foxboro and the elements,” head coach Conor Sheehan said. “[They] didn’t let the rain slow them down and really brought it to a very good Foxboro team. Against North Attleboro, the girls preformed very well against a team that is a perennial powerhouse in the Hockomock League. They never backed down from this team, and I couldn’t be prouder.”
