CHS girls’ track team victorious over Stoughton
By Mike BergerThe CHS girls’ track team won its third meet in four attempts with a 74-62 dual-meet win over Stoughton last week.
Canton garnered eight first places and eight second-place spots, with Vicky Tondre, Chidimma Nwanko, Radiya Buchanan, Amarachi Njoku, Anna Amico, and Molly Phalan each recording double victories.
“This is a big win for the girls against a very talented Stoughton team,” head coach Conor Sheehan said. “Our girls were just edging out the Stoughton girls. Many of them had to run personal bests to do it.”
First-place spots were earned by Colleen Healy, 400-meter hurdles, 68.4 seconds; Amico, 100-meter dash, 12.8 seconds; Tondre, 200 meters, 26.8 seconds, and long jump, 15 feet, 6.5 inches; Nwankwo, shot put, 35 feet, nine inches, and discus, 107 feet, ten inches; Buchanan, triple jump, 33 feet, 19.25 inches, and high jump, four feet, ten inches.
The 4×100 meter relay team of Tondre, Ashleigh Hicks, Phalan and Amico was also victorious.
Second places were earned by: Kate D’Orazio, 400-meter hurdles, 71.2 seconds; Sara Teague, mile, 6:01.3; Buchanan, 400 meters, 63.5 seconds; Mellyn Costello, 100-meter hurdles, 17.7 seconds; Lila Singer-Berk, two mile, 13:23.9; Njoku, shot put, 35 feet, and discus, 88 feet, ten inches; and Tondre, triple jump, 32 feet, eight inches.
Finishing third were: Phalan, 100-meter dash, 13.4 seconds; Becca Pulcini, 200 meters, 29.2 seconds; Jess Raymond, discus, 74 feet, six inches; and Stephanie Mui, high jump, four feet, four inches.
The Bulldogs are preparing for the State Relays at Milton High on Saturday morning, May 15. The team’s last home meet is Monday, May 17, against King Philip.
