Softball team bows to Holliston

By

The CHS softball team’s 2010 season came to an end last Friday following a 4-1 loss to Holliston in the preliminary round of the Division 2 south sectional tournament. The 19th-seeded Bulldogs fought hard but they were unable to find an answer for Holliston’s starting pitcher, who tossed a complete-game three hitter and struck out six.

In spite of the loss, the Bulldogs still had plenty to hang their hats on this year as they finished just one win shy of .500 in the regular season (8-10) and also won the Hockomock League Sportsmanship Award.

The team also played well down the stretch, including in its 13-3 win over Boston Latin Academy in the regular season finale. Olivia Kenyon led the way in that game, going 2 for 3 at the plate while striking out a season-high 10 batters on the mound.

The Bulldogs also nearly shocked King Philip in the final week of the season after getting blown out by the Warriors in their first meeting 24-0. Canton held a 1-0 lead going into the final inning until KP — one of the league’s real powerhouse teams — came back with three runs to steal the game.
