Hannington’s finished the regular season undefeated at 20-0 and finished as the top seed in the Canton Men’s Softball League. Playoffs were due to start Tuesday, August 3.

Cincinnati Suds grabbed the second seed after finishing with a record of 17-3. Rounding out the top five are Canton Junction (14-6), Lewis Bar and Grill (13-7), and Golden China (12-8).

The OIF/OEF Vets at 11-9 were the only other team to finish the regular season with a winning record, although both Finbarr’s Pub (8-12) and Centerfield’s Bar and Grill (7-13) were just a few wins shy of that distinction. Central Motors and MJ Enterprises finished in a tie for ninth place with identical 3-17 records, and Big D’s finished in 11th at 2-18.

The playoffs began with a play-in round to determine the sixth through the eighth seeds, with the bottom six teams facing each other to determine which three would advance.

Today, top-seeded Hannington’s will face the eighth seed at Messenger Field, and Cincinnati Suds will play host to the seventh seed at Devoll Field. Tomorrow, Canton Junction will host the sixth seed at Messenger, and Lewis Bar and Grill will face Golden China at Devoll.

In action last Sunday, Hannington’s crushed Big D’s 27-1 and Centerfield’s beat MJ Enterprises 10-5. Other wins were recorded by Lewis Bar and Grill, Centerfield’s, and MJ Enterprises.

In other news, Bryan Holtzman and Mike Stuart of the Hannington team were named co-MVPs for the league. Holtzman batted .710 with 10 homeruns and 44 RBIs while Stuart batted .658 with 13 homers and 43 RBIs. Hannington’s overall team batting average was an impressive .558.
