Discounted clothing retailer Designer Warehouse now open in Canton

There’s no longer a need to go to the outlets to find reasonable prices on designer apparel. Locals can skip the long ride and visit Designer Warehouse, a discounted clothing retailer, which opened its newest location at 100 Washington Street — across from the Village Shoppes — last month.

Designer WarehouseManager Layla Hosseini’s stepmom started the business 20 years ago with a store in Salem. While the Salem store has closed, Designer Warehouse has expanded to locations in West Yarmouth, Lakeville and now Canton. Since its inception, the business’s mission has been to offer high quality designer labels and famous mall brands at an affordable price — 20 to 80 percent off retail value.

Hosseini moved to Canton at age 5 and graduated from Canton High School in 2002 before attending Quinnipiac University, where she graduated with a degree in public relations and marketing.

“My dad and stepmom were looking into opening a third store, and they knew about Canton because it’s where I grew up,” Hosseini said. “They loved Cobb’s Corner and the tri-town area. It was the perfect place to open a store like this.”

Hosseini moved away from Canton after college, but said she’s glad to be back managing a store in the community she grew up in.

“We’ve just had such a good support system from the beginning, just from our friends and family,” she said. “Everyone has been so great and excited about it.”

In addition to famous mall brands, the store carries designers like BCBG, Free People, DKNY, Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors, Theory, Jones of New York and Juicy Couture.

“Right now, we’re doing great with this higher-end designer stuff,” Hosseini said. “We’re selling all the designer names 75 percent off. I’m a shopper, and I mean I go everywhere. Free People is my favorite brand and I haven’t seen it for more than 50 percent off anywhere.”

In addition to designer apparel, the store always offers a $1.99 accessory rack. And now they’re expanding into men’s wear.

“We have a small section now, but in the next couple of weeks we’re going to be getting more men’s suits, blazers and casual wear,” Hosseini said. “We’ve had a lot of men walking in who are excited that there’s a store for them to also get high-end designer apparel for a discount.”

The store appropriately opened on Black Friday to kick off the holiday season, and Hosseini said the first month of business has been great.

“Most of our business, so far, has been because of word of mouth,” she said. “We have a lot of people who will come back in and bring their mom, their sister or their daughter. People seem really happy to have a store like this right in Canton.”
