Indoor track team members advance to Coaches Invitational
By Mike BergerSix members of the CHS boys’ indoor track team and one relay will advance to the State Coaches Relay Meet this weekend at the Reggie Lewis Track Center in Boston: Jon Vaughn and Tom Kerikas in the 55-meter hurdles; Mike Bronstein in the two mile; Cam Huber in the 600; Matt Sidney and Chris Boughter in the high jump; and the 4×200 relay of Vaughn, Sidney, Boughter and Obi Nwankwo.
They qualified for the State Coaches Relay because of their excellent performances at the Class C Relays held almost two weeks ago.
Sidney jumped six feet, five inches in his best of six jumps. CHS head coach Chris Elgar believes Sidney’s 6’5” jump was so exceptional he would have cleared 6’10”. Boughter just missed the 5’9” mark, which would have been a personal best for him.
Girls’ coach Ben Mattson said members of his team also had solid performances at the Class C Relays. The 4×200 relay team of Tara Saraf, Mellyn Costello, Radiya Buchanan and Victoria Tondre qualified for the State Meet, and the long jump relay of Buchanan, Tondre and Costello placed fifth overall. The 4×400 team of Zoe Rosenberg, Mairead Bagley, Buchanan and Kate D’Orazio also ran a great time and just missed qualifying for state competition.
Both teams will make up a meet with Oliver Ames on Saturday, February 5, at the Franklin Field House.
