Gymnasts bow to NA despite more personal bests
By Kelsey OatesThe CHS gymnastics team hit the gym on Monday, earning 111.7 points to North Attleboro’s 129.5. Despite the loss, however, the Bulldogs have all made personal strides in their quest for excellence.
Jessie Brooks, coming back from an ankle injury, reasserted her dominance in the floor event with a 9.0, her highest score of the season. Becca Pulcini also exerted her prowess in the floor exercise. She completed a tumbling pass, consisting of a lay out with one and a half twists, as well as many high level jumps. Pulcini also scored an 8.3 (vault) and a 7.2 (bars). Liz Mason showed her improved skills on all four events, with a 7.7 (vault), 7.0 (bars), a 7.2 (floor), and a 7.5, the highest Bulldog score on beam. Rachel Leibovitz, in the process of expanding her skill set from the floor to the beam and vault, also did well, earning a 7.6 on the floor exercise.
As the gymnasts prepare for their final regular meet, coach Carla King noted how far all of her athletes have come, including the youngest. “The freshmen are very much new to the sport and have made unbelievable improvements throughout the season,” she said. “In my eyes, they all stand out.”
Stephanie Garafalo, Katie McLauhlin, Micaiah Slayton and Jillian Burke competed on the beam, all posting scores superior to those of earlier meets.
Siena Terenzio had an especially good week, scoring a 7.4 (vault) and a 7.6 (beam). The senior “always has an entertaining floor routine,” King said. “She has fun and dances really well.”
King added that Terenzio has been an “exceptional captain” and will be greatly missed next year. “[Terenzio] has worked so hard in every way possible with herself and with others on the team,” King said. “She has been a pleasure.”
The Bulldogs head into their last regular season match-up ready to take on any remaining challenges.
