Gavigan, Joseph T.
By Canton CitizenJoseph T. Gavigan, of Orleans, formerly of Canton, passed away unexpectedly February 5. Born and raised in Canton, he attended Canton schools and graduated from Canton High School.
He was the owner and operator of Gavigan Equipment in Middleboro since he was 22 years old. He was a longtime member of the Canton Town Club and has lived in Orleans for the last 35 years.
Proud father of eight: Ginny Friedman and her husband, Jeff, of VT; Nancy Walsh and her husband, Mark, of Raynham; Jay Gavigan and his wife, Karen, of Berkley; Sarah Leahy and her husband, Rob, of Canton; Tracy Gavigan and his wife, Debbie, of N. Easton; Dr. Michael Gavigan and his wife, Lisa, of Middleboro; Eva Jenkins and her husband, George, of Raynham; and John Gavigan and his wife, Debbie, of Canton.
He was the loving companion of 14 years of Dottie Root of Orleans and her children: Diedre Root of Orleans, Daniel Root of Brewster, Donna Vermen of Brewster, Diana Dion and her husband, David, and Debra Chase, all of Houston, TX, and the late David Root. Brother of Priscilla Gibney and her husband, Richard, of Canton. Former husband of the late Jean Parker. Also survived by 21 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service and burial private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the Massachusetts Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, 1577 Falmouth Rd., Centerville, MA. Arrangements by the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street.
