Sidney finishes 16th in national high jump competition

By

CHS high jumper Matt Sidney finished off his spectacular indoor track season at the national high school championship meet in a tie for 16th place with a six-foot, three-and-a-half-inch jump. This was the second consecutive year Sidney competed in the nationals. Last year he tied for 14th at six feet, two and a quarter inches.

Noting that it was not Sidney’s best jump, coach Chris Elgar said Sidney — who was not at 100 percent — “is still among the best there is.”

Sidney finished off a great season with a first-place finish in the Hockomock League championship meet (6’6”), followed by a victory in the Class C meet with another 6’6” jump. He finished third in the All-States (6’6”) and tied for sixth place in the New England high school track championship with a six-foot, five-inch jump, despite competing with an illness.
