By Canton CitizenMargaret M. Chierus (Landers), of Canton, passed away April 20 at the Hellenic Nursing Home in Canton. Born in Greenville, ME, she previously lived in Dorchester and has lived in Canton for the last 54 years.
She was the first female cab driver in the town of Canton, where she worked for Canton Taxi. She previously worked for New York New Haven Railroad in the Reservations Department and also previously worked in data entry for Cumberland Farms in Canton for 10 years. She enjoyed art, ceramics and the beach.
Beloved wife of the late Peter J. Chierus. Mother of Stephen J. and his wife, Claire Kelley, of Plymouth; Peter J. Jr. and his wife, Sharon Chierus, of North Attleboro; Brian V. Chierus of Canton; Henry T. and his wife, Maryanne Kelley, of Houston, TX; Donna M. Garnhum and her late husband, George Garnhum, of Norton; Joann M. Chierus and John MacDonald of Canton; Eileen P. and her husband, James Magee Jr., of Canton; and Carolyn Buras of Houston. Also survived by her lifetime friends Eileen P. Campbell and Virginia Dempsey of Stoughton and eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A funeral mass was held Monday morning, April 25, in St. John the Evangelist Church in Canton. Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Hellenic Nursing Home, 601 Sherman St., Canton, MA 02021. Arrangements by the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street.
