Donovan, Evelyn E.
By Canton CitizenEvelyn E. Donovan (Johnson), 84, died April 24, 2011, at the Ft. Lauderdale Health and Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Donovan was born and raised in Canton by Angelo and Rita Johnson. She was married to William J. Donovan, raised her five children in Norwood, and belonged to St. Catherine of Sienna parish.
During her youth she played the drums in the Johnson Sisters Band and also played the kettle drum in a symphony orchestra in Boston. She graduated from Canton High School and attended BU. She started her own clothing store in Canton and then concentrated on raising her children. She also volunteered at Norwood Hospital. Evelyn also worked at the Triangle Shop in Wellesley for several years. She has been residing in Florida for the past six years.
She is survived by her brother, Leo Johnson, of Pocasset; and two sisters, Mary Grant and Rita Post, both of Sharon; her three sons, Leo Donovan of Walpole, Owen Donovan of Brockton and John Donovan of Cincinnati, OH; and two daughters, Mary Donovan of Lighthouse Point, FL, and Ann Cohen of Boca Raton, FL. She also had seven granddaughters, five grandsons and two great-granddaughters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. John the Evangelist Church on Friday, April 29, at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Canton.
Visiting hours will be private. Arrangements were made by the Roache-Pushard Family Funeral Home, 210 Sherman Street.
