Softball team continues to show improvement
By Jeffrey CattelDespite two difficult losses — 3-0 to Dedham and 6-2 to North Attleboro — the CHS softball team continued to show improvement last week. The Bulldogs fared much better against 10th ranked Dedham than they did in the teams’ opening game of the season when they had eight errors and fell 9-0. Last week, Canton only committed one error.
Standout players included Olivia Murphy, who hit a triple, and Cady Kelly, who made an impressive catch in right field at the fence.
In the game against North Attleboro, Canton jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning after Olivia Murphy walked, Julia Murphy singled, and Olivia Kenyon doubled to score Olivia Murphy. Cady Kelly then laid down a bunt to score Julia Murphy. But the Bulldogs’ bats went silent for the rest of the game, and NA managed to pull ahead.
“The team is still getting accustomed to playing at this level as there are many first-year players,” said coach Ed Amico, reflecting on the past week. “But they are competitive and will only get better and turn those L’s into W’s.”
