Unity Feeds a new hotspot for local filmmakers
By Amy NachbarFor the second time this year, Barbara Walsh, owner of Unity Feeds in Canton Center, is hosting a film crew in the basement of her store. This time, the space is being used as a “hang-out” room in “Jonah Lives,” which is the working title for an upcoming film about six teens directed by Louis Carvalho.
The film tells the story of how one of the teens purchases an antique artifact from a gypsy. The artifact then inadvertently summons the undead.
In February, the film “TAME,” directed by John Mosetich, used Unity Feeds for one of its locations, and a third film will be coming in May.
So why do they come to Unity Feeds? According to actress Jocelyn Padilla, who has worked on both “TAME” and “Jonah Lives,” it’s the “set food.”
Walsh is known in film circles as having the best on-set food anywhere. Where else, they say, can you get steak tips, specialty gourmet meals of chicken, turkey and seafood all day long?
As one of the “Jonah Lives” actors explained, “No one is on a diet in this film.”
In fact, it was a prerequisite that no one be too thin for “Jonah Lives,” which is based on teenagers’ lives. Agreeing that teens already face enough pressure from the media to be thin, Carvalho said he didn’t want to contribute any further to the problem.
As for Walsh, she seems to be enjoying her new role as host to these aspiring stars.
“Who knew,” she joked, “that Canton could become Hollywood East?”
