Two Canton firefighters honored; 2 more to retire
By Mike BergerFirefighter/paramedic Leo Reardon and firefighter/EMT Christopher Whitley were recently named EMTs of the Quarter. Reardon received the highest rating for skills as a paramedic and Whitley the highest rating for skills as an EMT by Girard and Associates, the company responsible for quality assurance for Canton’s EMS program.
Paramedics and EMTs are scored based upon the quality of care they provide when working as an ambulance technician. Factors contributing to their scores include the total number of runs, skills performed, proper documentation, and feedback received by patients and hospital staff.
In other CFD news, Lt. Barry Ronayne and firefighter Jim Podgurski will retire from the Canton Fire Department at the end of this month. Ronayne started in 1974 and has served the department for 37 years, and Podgurski began his service 40 years ago as a call firefighter.
The CFD will host two receptions at its Revere Street headquarters so that colleagues, friends and family can wish them well. Ronayne will be honored Wednesday, May 25, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the event for Podgurski will take place Friday, May 27, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
