By Canton CitizenEdward W. Dockray, 92, of Melbourne, Florida, formerly of Canton, died Sunday, May 15, at the Holmes Medical Center in Melbourne.
Born, raised and educated in Canton, he had been a lifelong Canton resident before retiring to Florida where he had been a seasonal resident for many years.
Mr. Dockray attended Saint John’s Schools and both Bentley College and Northeastern University.
Mr. Dockray served as treasurer for the town of Canton for over 20 years and had been the executive director for the Canton Housing Authority.
He was employed for many years with the Gillette Company in South Boston as the head of the Traffic and Shipping Department. Mr. Dockray also operated his own accounting practice.
A member of the Board of Trustees at both the Canton Public Library and the Bank of Canton, he had been the accountant for Saint John’s Parish. He was a founding member of the Canton Youth Hockey program and was very involved with Canton Little League.
A corporal with the Marine Corps, he served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II.
He was an avid Red Sox fan.
Mr. Dockray is survived by his wife of 64 years, Louise B. (Radcliffe) Dockray; his sons, Edward W. Dockray, Jr. of Melbourne, FL, Michael Dockray of Norwood, and Stephen Dockray and his wife, Diane, of Canton; his grandchildren, Sean, Christine, Michael Jr., Alexandra, Cassandra, Stephen and Patrick. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren.
He was the brother of the late Thomas Dockray and father-in-law of the late Tere Dockray. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend funeral services in celebration of Edward’s life on Friday morning, May 20, at 9 a.m. from the Roache-Pushard Family Funeral Home, 210 Sherman Street, with a Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Gerard’s Church at 10 a.m.
Interment with Military Honors will be held at Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Canton. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, May 19, from 4-8 p.m.
