The recent Canton Annual Town Meeting approved the measure allowing the selectmen to petition state lawmakers to let the town make the position of deputy police chief a non-civil service position. The town meeting also turned down the proposal to expand the Canton Center Economic Opportunity District to include the land of the old Plymouth Rubber Company on Revere Street. That means the unsightly and long-vacant industrial property will stay as it is, and we apparently can now look forward to an unknown type of industrial occupant.
