CPD establishes drug take-back bin

The Canton Police Department has introduced a new drug take-back collection container, located in the foyer of the police station on Washington Street. Lt. Patty Sherrill said the department, working in partnership with the Norfolk County district attorney’s office under the leadership of DA Michael Morrissey, as well as the Department of Mental Health, was selected as a site for placement of a permanent drug collection container.

Residents will no longer have to wait for a scheduled drug collection event to drop off their expired or unused medications; however, as Sherrill noted, certain restrictions do apply.

“We do not take needles of any kind,” she said. “In addition, we do not accept thermometers or medical waste of any type, including bio-hazardous materials. We will accept expired or unwanted prescriptions and medicine (non-narcotics and narcotics), vitamins and herbals, veterinary medications and over-the-counter medicines.”

For more information, call Lt. Sherrill at 781-828-1214.

CPD warns of utility scam

In Norwood and on Greenlodge Street in Canton, residents have alerted police to a scam in which utility workers without any identification tell residents they want to mark off a utility trench on their property. The alleged worker invites the resident outside while another one waits to enter the house. Lt. Helena Findlen said these attempts have occurred late in the afternoon on a Friday when Town Hall is closed. She said any resident who is suspicious and does not see a valid identification should call police immediately. The scammers appear to be targeting elderly residents.

Police investigate multiple vandalism incidents

Police were called on Thursday morning, June 9, to investigate reports of vandalism at R.C. Muirhead at 395 Washington Street, 424 Washington Street, 40 Century Lane, and the Messinger Street field house. All apparently occurred sometime Wednesday night, June 8, or early Thursday morning. Lt. Helena Findlen said police are still trying to determine if the incidents are connected.
