13 Canton athletes to participate in 2011 Bay State Games

Thirteen amateur athletes from Canton have qualified for the finals in their respective sports in the 2011 Bay State Summer Games. The games began on Tuesday, July 5, with baseball at Bentley University and will continue with 25 other sports through July 24.

The Canton participants are: Ericka Berman (fencing), Colin Clapton (ice hockey), Colby Gavigan (soccer), Anthony Jesensky (pistol), Scott Levy (soccer), Julia Murphy (volleyball), Chris Murray (soccer), Obi Nwankwo (track and field), Collin Rozanski (track and field), Justin Saccone (ice hockey), Sam Shen (table tennis), Chris Sullivan (wrestling), and Andrew Vinciguerra (soccer).

Celebrating its 30th anniversary, the Bay State Summer Games is organized by the Massachusetts Amateur Sports Foundation (MASF), and with over 8,000 athletes from across the state participating each year, it is the largest multi-sport amateur athletic event in New England.

Notable Bay State Games alumni include former Boston Celtic stars Dana Barros and the late Reggie Lewis, women’s basketball star Rebecca Lobo, Olympic figure skater Nancy Kerrigan, and former NHL all-star and Boston Bruin Bill Guerin, among others.
