Canton has a gem of a library

By

Dear Editor:

I recently resigned after three years and 11 months of volunteering at the Canton Public Library, once a week for a full day. While being at the library so frequently, I have come to know the staff, but more importantly, to observe this wonderful group of dedicated and selfless workers.

The town of Canton has a gem of a library, but it also has a more shining gem of people who are its employees. I have worked throughout my adult life with all sorts of people, but I have never been in the midst of such a hard-working, competent, public-minded, helpful and courteous group of workers. From Library Director Mark Lague, current Circulation Director Mary Owen and former Circulation Director Ilene Kramer, to the extremely competent reference librarians, young adult librarian, and the marvelous staff of the Junior Room, the whole building buzzes with the activity of people giving their utmost to their job.

I know that a good portion of the town’s citizens are well aware of what a tremendous library Canton has, but I wanted to remind the whole town how lucky they are to have such a marvelous resource right in its midst. I also hope that this is remembered by these same citizens when town meeting comes around and funding for the library is brought up.

Sincerely,

Stephen Hagan
