News Notes: Police nab street sign, wallet thieves

Officer arrests Sharon man in sign theft ~

Police praised the work of Police Officer Rob Quirk, who followed up on a report of stolen metal signs at the Dan Road Industrial Park and arrested a Sharon man who possessed state highway and assorted street signs in his van. Officer Quirk arrested Alan Dutchman, 63, of Sharon, just after 10 a.m. last Wednesday after spotting the van described in the Dan Road incident on Washington Street near Blue Hill River Road. Dutchman was charged with larceny under $250. Metal is a valuable commodity, and police have received several reports of metal thefts, especially in commercial and industrial areas.

Wallet taken at Canton Co-op Bank

Police arrested Loni Mullin, 31, of Stoughton, for allegedly taking a wallet and personal possessions from a bank customer, who accidently left the wallet on a counter at the Canton Co-Operative Bank in Canton Center on Saturday, July 16, around 11:30 a.m. Lt. Helena Findlen said bank security cameras recorded the alleged theft, which she described as a deliberate action.

Driver extricated from vehicle following single-car accident

Paramedics and firefighters worked to extricate one unidentified male victim from a single-car motor vehicle accident at 280 Mechanic Street on Sunday, July 17, at 9:30 p.m. Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to open the driver’s-side door and extricate the victim, who was taken to Norwood Hospital for a precautionary examination. Lt. Brian Marshall said firefighters and paramedics remained on the scene for 25 minutes. Marshall said the vehicle struck a telephone pole and sustained substantial damage.
