McGonigle, William A.
By Canton CitizenWilliam A. McGonigle, 72, of Sharon, passed away peacefully at his home on August 8 with his family at his side.
Born in Boston, William graduated from Charlestown High School. He served as a marksman in the Army National Guard from 1956-1964. Mr. McGonigle was an entrepreneur in real estate development and a business owner. William was also a pilot and enjoyed flying out of Norwood Airport.
He was an active member of the town of Canton, where he was a Little League coach and a member of the Knights of Columbus #2095. He was also a member of Elks Lodge #1124, Norwood; AMVETS Post 1977, Stoughton; the Ancient Honor of Hibernians, Watertown; Fraternal Order of Eagles #4424, Sarasota, FL; Elks Lodge #2495, Sarasota, FL; Loyal Order of Moose #2237, Jupiter, FL; and the American Legion, Orlando, FL.
Beloved husband of Marie G. (Grace). Loving father of Deborah Gillespie and her husband, John, of Marshfield; William, Jr. and his wife, Lisa, John and his wife, Donna, all of Canton; and Sherry Rice of Worcester. Also survived by 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral mass will be celebrated Thursday morning, August 11, at 10 a.m. in St. Gerard Majella Church. Interment Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton. In lieu of flowers, donations in William’s memory can be made to Canton Veterans Service Dept., 801 Washington St., Canton, MA 02021, or to Steward Hospice, 30 Perwal St., Westwood, MA 02090.
