Volunteer School Cleanup Project
By Canton CitizenAfter serving as a presenter and facilitator at last month’s New England Leadership & Wellness Summit at Stonehill College, Peter Boucher, the new interim principal of the Hansen Elementary School, rounded up a group of local high school students in need of community service hours and brought them back to Canton for an afternoon of landscaping at the Hansen and Luce schools.
More than 80 students in all made the trip to Canton, where they performed “amazing work” under the supervision of Boucher, Hansen teacher Lori Mooney, Hansen parent Kathy Anderson, and Boucher’s father, a retired veteran who “loves to help.” A handful of Canton students also helped out, including Sara Teague (MIAA Student Advisory Council member), David Rosenberg, Vicki Tondre and Megan Barrera.
“It was a very inspiring and worthwhile day for all involved,” said Boucher. “We cleared a courtyard in the back of the school that hasn’t been used in years, cleared the playground area — Mrs. Mooney’s awesome idea — opened up some more playground area with branch removal, and spruced up the flower gardens and beds everywhere.”
