Canton High team wins Passing League title
By Mike BergerMembers of the upcoming CHS football team participated in the summer region 7 vs. 7 passing camp and had great success, winning three straight games to capture the Passing League title with an overall record of 6-2.
Canton defeated Bristol-Plymouth soundly in the first playoff game, then beat Stoughton in the rain to advance to the finals against Mansfield.
In an impressive showing under the lights, Canton topped Mansfield 23-14 to win the league title. Dave Bohane, the new head CHS football coach and an observer of the games, said the team was very well prepared by coaches Matt and Kevin Hagan.
“The town of Canton can be proud of these players as they conducted themselves with class,” Bohane said. “The atmosphere was intense and competitive, and our players displayed great sportsmanship throughout the tournament.”
Players participating during the summer season included Josh Matt, Anthony Bires, Ian Flavin, Elias Camacho, Jakiel Moses Harris, Dexter Green, Logan Cerrutti, Andre Ettienne, Ryan Dwyer, Shane Nordgren, Justin Rudy, Connor O’Brien, Brandon Pulido, Waleed Shakir, and Connor McLaughlin.
In other football news, Bohane announced that No. 27 will not be given out during the season, but rather on Thanksgiving Day in memory of the late Ricky Shannon. In the season finale at home against rival Stoughton, the number will be given out to the skill position player that “displays the competitive spirit and desire that Ricky Shannon so represented,” said Bohane. The player will be voted by his teammates and coaches and will be announced before the game.
