Halfway Cafe, Hannington’s reach men’s softball finals
By Mike BergerHalfway Cafe and Hannington’s are battling it out for the Canton Men’s Softball League championship, with the best-of-seven finals getting underway on Tuesday, September 6. Halfway Café, which finished the regular season at 15-5 and was given the third seed in the playoffs, beat second-seeded Golden China (16-4) in the semifinals with three wins.
Hannington’s, which ended the regular season at 14-6, were able to upset top-seeded Canton Junction (18-2) in the other semifinal series with three wins, including a series-clinching, 12-6 victory last week.
Game two of the finals was scheduled for Wednesday, and game three is set for tomorrow at Devoll Field. The teams will also play Monday at Messinger Field and, if necessary, September 13 at Devoll, September 15 at Messinger, and September 16 at Devoll.
Canton Women’s Softball League Playoff Update
In playoff action last week in the Canton Women’s Softball League, Appraisal’s beat Golden China 7-5 to remain in the winner’s bracket and now advances to the championship series.
In other results, American Legion beat Dockray, KT’s topped BZ & Co., and American Legion beat KT’s.
American Legion will now face Golden China on September 7. The winner will advance to the championship round against Appraisal’s in a best-of-three series.
