CHS golfers stay even at 3-3

The CHS golf team evened its record at 3-3 after splitting two matches last week. The Bulldogs lost at Sharon 157-174 and won at its home course at the Blue Hill Country Club 161-174, avenging an earlier loss to Foxboro.

Head coach Jim Spillane said playing at Sharon is always difficult because it is a private course and is challenging for inexperienced golfers. This year’s Sharon team boasts one of the top high school golfers in the nation in Isabel Souther, who shot a one-under 35 to lead the Eagles. Canton’s lowest scorers were Mike Lamir and Kevin Marchand with a 42, followed by Rich Nee with a 45.

The following day, all the Canton golfers shot well as the Bulldogs defeated Foxboro by 13 strokes. Sophomore Sam Riemer had the lowest score of the day, shooting three over par at 38 to lead the team. It was his lowest score of the year at Blue Hill, and he now has the lowest average on the team at 41. Three other golfers shot a 41 against the Warriors: Marchand, Nee, and first-year golfer Sam Hrubec.

Spillane also noted the improvement of two younger golfers in a recent junior varsity match: freshman Mike Breviglia and sophomore Sage Lee.

This week, Canton was due to play at Attleboro for the first time since Attleboro was added to the league last year. The Bulldogs also had two home matches this week: a rematch with Sharon on Wednesday and a match with Mansfield on Thursday.
