Smith, Barbara E.

Barbara E. Smith (Demers), 71, of Canton, passed away October 14 at home.

Born in Milton, she was raised in Hyde Park and Dedham and graduated from Dedham High School. She had lived in Canton for the last 49 years where she was a member of the Community Club of Canton and worked 18 years for the Finance Department and 10 years as executive administrative assistant to the Canton Police Chief.

A tireless worker and volunteer who devoted her life to family and community, she will be missed by so many who knew and loved her.

Beloved wife of the late William A. Mother of Kimberly Couture and her husband, William, of VT, and the late Susan Rizzie. Loving sister of Claire Demers of NM, Melvin Demers of FL, and David Demers of Upton. Cherished grandmother of Robert Rizzie of WA, Sarah and David Couture, both of VT.

A funeral mass was held Monday morning, October 17, in St. John the Evangelist Church in Canton. Burial private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Seasons Hospice, 275 Grove St., Newton, MA 02466; or Adrienne’s Home Care Inc., 104 Hopper Rd., Dedham, MA 02026; or to Cops for Kid’s With Cancer, P.O. Box 850956, Braintree, MA 02185. Arrangements by the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street.
