Smathers, Russell D.

Russell D. Smathers, 84, devoted husband and father, of Canton, passed away October 28 at Epoch Senior Healthcare of Sharon.

Born in President, PA, he graduated from Shippenville High School (PA) and Franklin Tech Institute in Boston. Mr. Smathers served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He worked for Boston University as an electrician for many years before retiring at 65 years old. He was a member of the Constellation Rite Lodge for 51 years in the valley of Boston and a member of the Society for Apprehending Horse Thieves in Dedham.

Beloved husband of over 62 years to Edith Longfellow. Father of Bruce and Duane, both of Canton. Brother of Kenneth of FL and Barbara Reed of PA.

A graveside service was held Tuesday morning, November 1, in the chapel at Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton. Donations may be made in his memory to the American Red Cross Blood Bank, 139 Main St., Cambridge, MA 02142. Arrangements by the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street.
