Canton resident to chair Potters Place Show & Sale
By Canton CitizenPotters Place in Walpole is having its annual Fall Show & Sale, with hundreds of handcrafted, uniquely designed and glazed pottery items available for your holiday shopping.
This year’s show will be chaired by Canton resident Debbie McCarty, a talented potter whose obsession with the craft started about 10 years ago, when she signed up for her first pottery class.
“Since that first class, I have been obsessed, as most potters will admit, with creating with clay,” McCarty said. “My husband jokes that I look at the world as it relates to pottery. He is mostly right.”
“It was his birthday that inspired me to begin making fish,” McCarty explained. “I started with a striped bass, his favorite to catch at the Cape. A friend suggested that I try other species, and that was it. I now have black sea bass, flounder, bluefish, scup — my personal favorite — and many ideas for more. The fish is just one facet of the obsession. I have so many ideas and not enough hours in the day, but [I am] enjoying every minute.”
The Show & Sale hours are Friday, November 18, from 6-9 p.m.; Saturday, November 19, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday, November 20, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A reception will take place on Friday evening where attendees can enjoy refreshments and meet the 22 featured Potters Place artisans.
This year, Potters Place celebrates “Festive Feasts” with a unique collection of functional and fine art pottery that includes wheel-thrown and hand-built items. There will be a wide array of one-of-a-kind functional and fine art pottery items for purchase in all price ranges. Vases, batter bowls, mugs, berry bowls, embellished platters, casserole dishes, bowl sets, cookie jars, plates, tree ornaments, and sculptures will be among the handcrafted pieces for sale.
The Show & Sale offers a wonderful opportunity for the public to visit the studio and learn more about the craft of pottery, as well as the upcoming winter classes at Potters Place for both adults and children. Gift certificates will be available for purchase, along with select pieces of pottery with proceeds going to a local charity.
Potters Place is located at 127B Old West Street in Walpole. For directions and more information, call 508-668-0363 or visit www.pottersplace.info. Free admission and parking are available; credit cards are accepted.
