DiSalvo, Sheila A.

By

Sheila A. (Mastrangelo) DiSalvo, 69, died peacefully surrounded by love on Sunday morning, December 18, 2011, at her Natick home.

Born in Chelsea on November 16, 1942, she was a daughter of the late Ralph and Beatrice (Bagnera) Mastrangelo and was raised in East Boston. She was a graduate of Fitton Central High School and continued her education at Salem State College where she earned a bachelor of science in education. She then taught elementary students in Revere.

Sheila was married to Dennis M. DiSalvo in 1969 and the couple settled in Natick four years later. Sheila devoted herself to creating a warm and loving home for her growing family and was heavily involved with the activities of her children.

When they were older she returned to teaching, first as an elementary teacher’s assistant with the Dover-Sherborn schools and later as a special needs educator in Wayland. There she enjoyed fostering the development of both elementary and middle school aged students until her recent retirement.

Fond of music and a guitar player herself, Sheila was a great fan of Bruce Springsteen, Paul Simon and Paul McCartney, and attended concerts whenever possible.

She and her family summered in Eastham on Cape Cod each year and the beach was a favorite place for her to relax. Sheila also shared her love with the family pets through the years, most recently with her adored golden retrievers Rosie and Lexi.

She is survived by Dennis; a son, Todd M. DiSalvo and wife, Evangeline, of Quincy; a daughter, Holly B. Erickson and husband, Daniel, of Canton; three grandchildren, Luke, Natalie Bea, and Sofia Rose; a brother, Alan Mastrangelo and wife, Carol, of Saugus; and many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Jacqueline Sullivan.

In lieu of flowers, please make gifts in Sheila’s memory to the Natick Food Pantry, 99 Hartford Street, Natick, MA 01760, or the Peace Abbey, 2 North Main St., Sherborn, MA 01770.
