Police credit detectives with solving housebreak

Police Lt. Helena Findlen said “great police work and follow-up” by the department’s detectives have led to the December 14 arrest of two suspects in a housebreak on Shaw Farm Road. Police charged Nicholas Litchfield, 26, of Taunton, and Matthew Patchell, 27, of 1123 Arboretum Way, with receiving stolen property over $250, breaking and entering in the daytime, and malicious destruction of property. Jewelry and cash were taken in the break-in, Findlen said, adding that five housebreaks were reported during the Thanksgiving weekend and the department’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation has solved four of them.

Officer Brown and Bosco help catch B&E suspect in Stoughton

An early morning police search — assisted by Canton canine officer Scott Brown and his dog, Bosco — led to the apprehension of a break-in suspect on Sunday, December 18. Stoughton police called Canton police just after midnight and asked for the help of Brown and Bosco after a break occurred outside Bob’s Foodmart near Stoughton Center. Bosco picked up the scent and led Brown to Britton Street in Stoughton where Stoughton police arrested Dominique Dixon, 22, of Brockton.

Neighbor extinguishes dryer fire

A neighbor’s quick response to extinguish a dryer fire at 6 Colonial Lane on Sunday afternoon, December 18, limited damage to the home.

Fire Lt. Brian Marshall said the floor and walls sustained some smoke damage. Marshall said the likely cause of the fire was lint buildup in the vent. He said homeowners should remove the lint after every dryer load and not run the appliance when no one is home.

Two women charged with falsely reporting a crime

Two women will be summoned to court to face the charge of falsely reporting a crime on Sunday, December 18. According to Lt. Tom Keleher Jr., the women said they were robbed outside the Honey Dew donut shop on Neponset Street. But after an investigation, Keleher said the claim was determined to be false. Keleher said the investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Scrap metal thefts continue

With reports of metal theft steadily increasing, police are asking business owners to lock up all scrap metal. In the last week, police received two reports of scrap metal taken from Canton Plumbing & Heating.
