Ponkapoag Civic’s Chili Cook-off
By GuestOn Saturday, February 4, members and guests of the Ponkapoag Civic Association gathered at the civic for the first-ever PCA Chili Cook-off. This friendly pro-am competition saw four local restaurants compete against each other, while members and guests put their best recipes on the table — all for the title of “Best Chili in Canton.”
The four participating restaurants — Halfway Café, Hillside Pub, Neponset Café, and Queen Anne’s — all brought their best and were judged by over 50 members and guests in attendance. Those members and guests also had the opportunity to compete against one another, with eight very different batches of chili represented.
Halfway Café came in first place in the restaurant division with its sausage-infused masterpiece, and Queen Anne’s took home second-place honors.
In the amateur division, Kristen and Steve Furbush took first-place for their “Gronk’s Gametime Chili.” Second place went to the Reese family, with their “Hot Beans Bro” recipe, and third place was awarded to Eileen and Ken Hevert’s “Hev Dog Chili.”
The Ponkapoag Civic, a non-profit social and pool club located in the Ponkapoag section of Canton, is looking to make this an annual event, so start working on your chili recipe for next year. For more information on the civic, go to www.ponkapoagcivic.org.
