Brittany Lyons leads Quinnipiac women’s hockey

By

Brittany Lyons, a former standout athlete at Canton High School who plays forward for the Division 1 Quinnipiac University women’s ice hockey team, scored one of the team’s two goals in a 2-0 victory over No. 3 Clarkson in the deciding game of the best-of-three ECAC quarterfinals.

Lyons’ goal — her seventh of the season — came on a terrific shot from the middle of the faceoff circle. The Clarkson goalie attempted to punch the puck away, but it instead slipped through her pads for the score.

It was the second time in as many seasons that a goal by Lyons helped send the Bobcats to the ECAC semifinals. Last year she scored the game winner in a 2-1 victory over Princeton, and the team went on to win the series and earn its first-ever trip to a conference semifinals.

This year, No. 6 Quinnipiac once again drew top-seeded Cornell in the semis, and once again the Big Red prevailed, ending the Bobcats’ season with a 5-1 win on March 2 in Ithaca, New York.
