Starting in March 2002 with You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, the Canton Community Theatre has been bringing the joy of live theatre to thousands of local audience members.

In 10 years, the CCT has given hundreds of Canton citizens the opportunity to perform in shows, from summer spectaculars with casts ranging in age from 8 to over 80, to smaller ensemble comedies, to cabarets and variety shows. The theatre continues to focus on the community in community theatre by performing benefits for local nonprofits, including the Friends of the Canton Public Library, Canton Community Problem Solving Teams, and the Canton Historical Society.

To help celebrate its 10th anniversary season, the Canton Community Theatre will be holding a Comedy Show Fundraiser on Saturday, April 14, at the Canton Town Club. The show features three professional comedians, Frank Santorelli, Patty Ross, and Donny Soares. Tickets are available at cantoncommunitytheatre.org and are $20 each, set up in tables of 10. Light refreshments will be served and a cash bar is available. It’s a great time for groups of friends to have a Boston night of comedy here in Canton.

The remaining season includes The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged), a fun romp through Shakespeare’s best in just two hours, which will be presented as free lawn chair theatre on the lawn at the Village Shoppes at Cobb’s Corner for six performances in July, sponsored by the Wilder Companies.

In early November, the theatre will present the Tony Award-winning musical The Drowsy Chaperone as its acclaimed dessert theatre at the United Church of Christ. Auditions for the show will be held in early June — watch the Canton Citizen for more information.

CCT shows to date include The Music Man, A Christmas Carol, Oklahoma!, Clue, Rumors, Grave Intentions, The Wizard of Oz, Gilligan’s Island, Steel Magnolias, The Sound of Music, Anything Goes, Damn Yankees, Beauty and the Beast, George M! and Love Letters.
