Canton couple killed after being struck by motorist

A husband and wife from Canton, Boris and Margaret Baron, both 67, of Shaw Farm Road, were killed last Thursday, April 12, after being struck by a motorist while out walking on Will Drive shortly after 8:30 p.m.

The couple was transported by ambulance to Boston Medical Center that night, but both succumbed to their injuries — one on Friday, April 13, and the other on Saturday, April 14.

Police have not yet charged a 21-year-old man from Acushnet, identified as the driver of the motor vehicle. Police are withholding the name of the driver until an investigation has been completed. The State Police Reconstruction Team and Canton Police are looking into the cause of the accident.

Canton Police Lt. Helena Findlen said that drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors at this time. Findlen said the operator was leaving a trade school class held at a building on Will Drive, and the elderly couple was walking home when the accident occurred. The speed limit on Will Drive is 30 miles per hour.

Findlen said that because of the fatalities, the State Police results will arrive sooner than a State Police report on a serious two-car accident on York Street in early March that injured seven people, including six CHS students. Fortunately, all of the injured parties in the York Street accident have returned home, including those who sustained major injuries.

Correction: In the April 19 issue of the Canton Citizen, it was incorrectly reported that all of the passengers who were injured in the March 2 motor vehicle accident on York Street had returned home from the hospital. However, one of the passengers remains hospitalized at an area rehabilitation facility.
