Quigley, Edward M.
By Canton CitizenSenior Deacon Edward M. Quigley, 91, of Canton, passed away May 6 at Norwood Hospital.
Born in Boston, he was raised in Mission Hill and graduated from Mission High School and earned an associate’s degree from Boston College. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII and worked as an engineer for the MDC for many years before retiring in 1985.
Ed served as the permanent deacon at St. John the Evangelist Church in Canton for 35 years. He had lived in Canton since 1953 where he was a member of the St. Gerard’s Prayer Group, K of C Council #2095, and the American Legion Post #24.
Beloved husband of the late Gerine H. (Hawes). Father of Dr. Edward P. and his wife, Joan, of Stoughton, Joseph M. of Dennis, and James G. of Canton. Brother of Agnes Carlson of CT. Grandfather of Matthew Quigley and his wife, Maya, of South Africa, and Daniel Quigley and his wife, Carla, of TX. Great-grandfather of Sebastian and Gabriel Quigley of South Africa.
Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street, Thursday, May 10, from 4-8 p.m. Funeral mass at St. John the Evangelist Church Friday morning at 10:30. Interment Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. Donations may be made in his memory to the Canton Veterans’ Service Department, 801 Washington St., Canton, MA 02021, or to a charity of one’s choice.
