Allen, Robert L.
By Canton CitizenRobert L. Allen, 75, of Canton, passed away at Kindred Health Care in Stoughton on May 24.
Born in Concord, he was raised in West Roxbury and graduated from West Roxbury High School, where he was active in sports, especially baseball, football, bowling and golf. After school he enlisted and served in the Army. After his service to his country he enjoyed landscaping his own property as well as others to make extra money when he was first married.
He worked for Boston Gas as a field technician for 40 years and retired in 1998. While working at Boston Gas he continued his love of sports and participated in the after-work baseball, bowling and golf leagues. He was elected to the Boston Gas Credit Union Board of Directors, which he served for 20 years before his retirement. After his retirement, he and his wife enjoyed travel vacations, especially the last 10 years of winters in Florida. He has lived in Canton for 32 years and was a member of the Boston Lodge #10 of the Elks and the Norwood Elks.
Beloved husband of Maureen J. (O’Brien). Father of Debra A. Allen of Portland, Oregon. Brother of Joseph W. Allen of Holliston. Also survived by two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass was held Wednesday, May 30, in St. John the Evangelist Church in Canton. Interment St. Bridget Cemetery, Maynard. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 36 Cameron Ave., Cambridge, MA 02140. Arrangements by the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street.
