Man dies after going into cardiac arrest at graduation
By Mike BergerAn unidentified man passed away at Norwood Hospital after going into cardiac arrest at Friday’s graduation exercises at Canton High School. Fire Chief Charlie Doody said the man left the CHS gymnasium not feeling well and was found outside the gym by spectators, who started CPR. Others called 911 and an ambulance crew on scene immediately responded. EMTs applied a defibrillator and the man was then transported to the hospital.
Fire Dept. warns of fundraising scam
Several residents have called the selectmen’s office and the Fire Department to report a suspicious telephone campaign seeking donations to the Fire Department with an offer for someone to pick up the donation at the residence. Fire Chief Charlie Doody said there is a scam being conducted in several towns claiming to raise money for burn victims as well as local fire departments. Doody said the Canton Fire Department is not conducting any fundraising activities.
Backhoe theft reported
A John Deere backhoe, valued at $45,000, was taken from a private company on Dunbar Street sometime between Friday night and Saturday morning, June 8-9. Anyone with information is urged to call police.
