Canton A’s hope to rebound with full lineup
By Mike BergerCanton A’s head coach Kee Arguimbau hopes the wins will begin to come now that he has a full lineup, with some of his hitters returning from injury and a few players being added to the roster.
As of Sunday, the A’s, a semipro baseball team playing its home games at Canton High and made up of current and former college players, are 2-6-1 on the season. The team’s general manager is Cab Devoll and the assistant coach is Bob Gibson Jr., both of Canton.
Veteran players returning to the lineup include Joe Belmosto, John Garabedian, Brian Williams, Chris Puliafico, Alex Rossi, Chuck Erickson, Steve Delanian, Tyler Hitchcock, Drew Larusso, and Mark Nelson.
New players this year are Nick Radcliffe, Zack Walker, Sean Kaedey, Danny O’Connell, R.J. McCann, and Ben Pederson of Sharon, who played last year for the Canton American Legion team.
Arguimbau said his top pitchers are Hitchcock, Nelson, and Radcliffe. The team’s best hitters are Williams, who is batting around .300 so far with four doubles and a triple, as well as Garabedian, Puliafico and Erickson, who all proved they could hit last season.
The team recently rebounded with a dominant 12-3 win over Brockton and led 2-1 against Braintree — considered one of the best teams in the state — before losing 5-2.
Arguimbau believes the addition of Radcliffe ands Walker will add to the depth and quality of the pitching staff, and the team is excited about O’Connell, a brilliant shortstop and a solid all-around baseball player.
Canton will host South Shore on Thursday (today) at CHS at 6 p.m. and then travel to Middleboro for a doubleheader on Sunday at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. The A’s will also travel to Easton on Tuesday, June 26.
