Stoughton woman killed in two-car crash on Rte. 138
By Mike BergerA 32-year-old Stoughton woman is facing charges of motor vehicle homicide and other motor vehicle charges following the death of a 64-year-old Stoughton woman in a two-car accident on Route 138 in Canton early Sunday morning.
Sara Escudero, 64, of Stoughton, the lone occupant in her vehicle, died at Good Samaritan Hospital on Sunday after being transported to the hospital by Canton EMTs. Fire Lt. Brian Marshall said Escudero suffered “traumatic arrest” in the crash and had to be extricated from her vehicle using the Jaws of Life.
Auricelli Braga, 32, of Stoughton, was also transported to Boston Medical Center for serious injuries. According to Police Lt. Helena Findlen, she will be arraigned at the hospital on charges of motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation, unlawful operation of a motor vehicle, two counts of marked lanes violations, and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
The head-on collision occurred near Jiffy Lube at 239 Turnpike Street. Escudero was on her way to the Hebrew Rehabilitation Center in Roslindale for her nursing shift. Braga was alone in her vehicle as it was headed toward Stoughton on Rte. 138. Findlen said there were several witnesses to the accident. Ten firefighters and police responded to the scene, and State Police were also called to investigate.
Regional hazmat team called for chlorine leak at Canton water plant
A regional hazmat team, including Canton Deputy Fire Chief Scott Johnson, was called to clean up a chlorine leak at the new Canton water treatment plant on Neponset Street on Tuesday, June 19, around 2:45 p.m.
An alarm system alerted firefighters to the leak in a 150-pound chlorine cylinder stored in a special room at the plant. Fire Lt. Brian Marshall said there was no danger to the public. The water plant remained in operation during the cleanup. The new plant, with advanced alarms, immediately alerted Canton fire and DPW water officials.
