Blue Hill CC to host Golfweek junior tourney
By Canton CitizenOn Monday and Tuesday, July 30 and 31, Blue Hill Country Club in Canton will host the Golfweek New England Junior Invitational, featuring some of the best junior golfers in the country.
Since 2001, Golfweek Magazine has conducted national junior invitational events that have attracted many of the elite junior players in the country — including some who have gone on to compete on the PGA and LPGA tours. The New England Junior Invitational marks the third event in the series, to go along with the East Coast Junior Invitational in Orlando and the West Coast Junior Invitational in Phoenix.
More than 100 golfers will participate in next week’s college-style tournament, including players from the seven New England states as well as Illinois, Michigan, Florida and Ontario. The event will take place over 54 holes with national rankings and AJGA performance stars at stake.
Players were invited to the event based on their national rankings or gained special invitations through performance on regional junior tours.
The New England Junior Invitational will start at 8:30 a.m. both days and the event will be open to the public. There will be two 18-hole rounds on Monday and one 18-hole round on Tuesday.
Blue Hill Country Club, located at 23 Pecunit Street in Canton, is a member-owned private country club with 27 holes of championship golf. The main course was designed in 1925 by Eugene “Skip” Wogan, one of golf’s premier architects of the Classic Period. In 1961, Wogan’s son, Phil, provided the design for the club’s nine-hole Challenger Course.
Members and their guests enjoy a wide range of recreational and social activities at Blue Hill’s modern facilities, which include a brand-new heated pool, tennis courts, practice facilities, and several dining and function facilities. The public is invited to explore Blue Hill Country Club for membership opportunities or to host an upcoming function or golf outing.
