Richard M. Gibney, 84, of Canton, passed away August 14 at the Hellenic Nursing Home.

Born in Hingham, he was raised in Canton and graduated from Canton High School, Brown University, and was a Navy veteran of World War II. He worked as a salesman for many years for International Paper and later had his own industrial sales company, the Gibney Company.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #24 in Canton, the Blue Hill Masons Lodge in Canton, the Braeburn Country Club in Newton, Hyannisport Country Club, and the Oyster Harbor Country Club.

Beloved husband of Priscilla A. McPhee (Gavigan). He is survived by Priscilla’s loving children, Richard F. McPhee and his wife, Judy, of Holden, and Luann Reidy and her husband, John, of East Walpole. Grandfather of Daniel, Emily and Allison McPhee, and Christopher, Caroline and Phillip Reidy. Brother of John F. Gibney of Wayland and the late Thelma Loring.

Relatives and friends invited to attend a funeral service at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street, Friday, August 17, at 11:30 a.m. Visiting hours Thursday, August 16, from 5-8 p.m. Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery, Canton. Donations may be made in his memory to the Canton Veterans Service Department, 801 Washington St., Canton, MA 02021.
