NVCC announces job fair for veterans
By Canton CitizenJoin the Neponset Valley Chamber of Commerce on September 12 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for a “Hiring Our Heroes” job fair for veteran job seekers, active duty military, members of the National Guard and reserve components, and military spouses. This will be a free hiring fair for both employers and job seekers, and will take place at the American Legion Post #18, located at 155 Eastern Avenue in Dedham.
This event is sponsored by the American Legion and is conducted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Neponset Valley Chamber of Commerce, the Department of Labor’s Veterans Employment and Training Service, the Massachusetts Committee of the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the Student Veterans of America, NBC News, and other local partners.
“It’s disturbing that the unemployment rate for returning veterans is so much higher than it is for others,” said Tom O’Rourke, president and CEO of the Neponset Valley chamber. “We hope that employers will recognize the special skills that today’s military people possess. In addition to discipline, work ethic, leadership and dependability, they also bring skills in computer technology, logistics, mapping, GPS, and much more.”
The NVCC is also pleased that state Senator Michael Rush will be in attendance. Senator Rush is actively serving in the U. S. Naval Reserves and chairs the Joint Committee on Veterans and Federal Affairs.
