Local employers invited to disability job fair
By Canton CitizenCanton businesses seeking high-quality employees to diversify their workforces are invited to attend a unique Disability Job Fair on November 8 to meet job seekers who are blind or visually impaired.
The job fair will connect employers that need to fill full- or part-time entry-level positions with qualified candidates with visual impairments from all over the state. This event is open to all employers, large or small, commercial or nonprofit.
“People who are sight impaired have proven to be excellent, motivated, long-term employees,” said Karen McCormack, job developer at Perkins School for the Blind. “This is a wonderful opportunity for employers to meet entry-level candidates with a range of skills and experience, and to increase their organization’s reputation for hiring a diverse range of applicants.”
The job fair will be held Thursday, November 8, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at One Marina Park Drive in Boston’s Fan Pier complex. There is no cost to attend. Registration deadline for employers is October 15. Experts will be available to offer advice for simple and cost-effective workplace accommodations for people who are visually impaired.
This job fair is sponsored by the Massachusetts Commission for the Blind, the Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services, MAB Community Services, National Braille Press, Perkins School for the Blind, and the Carroll Center for the Blind.
