The CHS golf team played two new Hockomock League opponents last week in Milford and Taunton and came away with mixed results. Canton beat Milford on the road 159-160 but lost at home to Taunton 162-164. The team is now 3-3 with half of the season left to play.

CHS head coach Jim Spillane said he was very pleased with the Milford win, realizing this was the first time his golfers had ever seen Milford’s home course, the Hopedale Country Club. Spillane said the course is similar to Canton’s Wampatuck Country Club with a few tricky and challenging holes.

Sam Riemer was Canton’s low scorer, shooting two above par with a 35, followed by JC Marcone with a 40 and Brian Brooks and Sam Hrubec with a 41.

“I think their scores were impressive since they had never played the course before,” said Spillane.

Unfortunately, the team did not play to its usual expectations in its home match with Taunton, losing by two strokes.

“We had three very good scores, but the fourth one was very high,” Spillane said. “Our goal on our home course is a team score of 160. We won’t beat many opponents with a team score of 164.”

Riemer and Marcone tied for the team lead with a 39, followed by Brooks with a 41 and new player Mike Breviglia with a 45.

The Bulldogs were due to travel to North Attleboro on October 1 and then host Foxboro on October 3. Their next match is scheduled for Tuesday, October 9, at Sharon.
