Venckus, Mary M.
By Canton CitizenMary M. Venckus (Ruane), 98, of Stoughton, formerly of Canton, passed away October 12 at the Copley at Stoughton after a brief illness.
Born and raised in Canton, she graduated from St. John’s School in 1931. She worked as a sales clerk for Jordan Marsh in Braintree for many years before retiring in 1988. She lived most of her life in Canton, where she was a member of the Canton Catholic Women’s Club and enjoyed spending time at the Canton Senior Center. She has lived in Stoughton for the last 16 years.
Beloved wife of the late John E. Mother of Mary Jo Everett and her husband, Peter, of VT, and Judith A. O’Connell and her husband, Paul, of Stoughton. Sister of Bernadette Merchant of Canton and the late Julia Beck, Lillian Flynn, Joseph, John and Francis Ruane. Grandmother of Jennifer Barucci of Stoughton, Peter Everett of VT, Heather McGinley of Stoughton, and Brian O’Connell of Burlington. Also survived by five great-grandchildren.
A funeral mass was held Tuesday morning, October 16, in St. John the Evangelist Church in Canton. Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery, Canton. Donations may be made in her memory to the Canton Senior Center, 660 Washington St., Canton, MA 02021. Arrangements by the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street.
