Casale, Walter J.
By Canton CitizenWalter J. Casale, 89, of Canton, passed away suddenly October 29 at Norwood Hospital.
Born and raised in Jamaica Plain, he attended Boston schools and graduated from Boston Trade High School. He was a decorated Army veteran of WWII where he was the recipient of a Purple Heart for his service. He was a member of the Boston Police Department for many years and retired as a captain in 1985. He has been a resident of Canton since 1972.
Beloved husband of Ruth M. (Lawless). Father of Claire M. Joyce and her husband, Michael, of Canton; Deborah A. Costa and her husband, Edward, of Bridgewater; Walter J. Jr. and his wife, Judy, of Rockland; Stephen A. and Michael, both of Canton; Ruthann O’Brien and her husband, Neil, of Canton; and James A. and his wife, Christine, of Wakefield. Also survived by 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter-in-law Jane Casale.
Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street, Thursday, November 1, from 4-8 p.m. Funeral mass in St. Gerard Majella Church in Canton Friday at 10 a.m. Interment Canton Corner Cemetery. Donations may be made in his memory to the Canton Veterans Service Department, 801 Washington St., Canton, MA 02021.
